Hello Everyone! My wife and I recently had a fantastic trip to one of my favorite places in Upstate New York – the stunning Finger Lakes region. If you’re planning your own getaway or are curious about this beautiful area, read on for some insights from our adventure spanning over seven days!
We arrived at Rochester-Geneseo Airport (ROC) early morning on May 1st and took a taxi straight to our cozy cabin near the picturesque Seneca Lake. We chose staying in this area because it’s just right – close enough for exploring but also peaceful with nature all around us!
Our first full day was spent discovering Canandaigua, an enchanting town located at the southern end of Keuka Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. We were amazed by its vibrant downtinaside – quaint shops and historic buildings that exude charm. Our favorite stop was the beautiful Keuka Outlet Village, where we found unique gifts for our family back home!
For lunch in Canandaigua, my wife and I tried The Lodge at Lakewood Estate’s restaurant – a place with an amazing view of Seneca Lake. We enjoyed their fresh salads and grilled fish while taking in the scenery. Our meals were around $30 each – great for such high-quality dining!
The next day, we decided to explore some wineries along the Finger Lakes wine route. Wine tasting is a must-do activity here; it’s like taking a journey through different flavors in every glass. We visited Herman Family Vineyards and Seneca Vineyards & Winery, both of which were well worth our time.
Remember to bring your wallet when going wine tasting – you can expect to spend about $10-$25 per person for a bottle or glass of local wines! It’s an experience that will definitely leave a lasting impression on you and create beautiful memories with friends or family.
After exploring the vineyards, we took a leisurely drive up to Watkins Glen State Park – one of our top recommendations from fellow travelers before heading there! We spent an entire day hiking through breathtaking trails and marveling at stunning waterfalls.
We had lunch in the park’s picnic area with sandwiches we bought earlier that morning – a quick, affordable option for us (around $15 each). It was perfect fuel for our hike!
Health-wise, make sure to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen during outdoor activities. The Finger Lakes region offers gorgeous scenery but can also be quite warm in the summer months; staying hydrated will keep you comfortable throughout your journey.
Our next adventure was a visit to Watkins Glen Village, where we spent time exploring antique shops and boutiques. This historic village has over 100 unique stores, so take your time browsing around! We stopped for lunch at the Village Grille & Market on Main Street – I highly recommend trying their famous hot sandwiches; they were delicious!
We also took a scenic drive to Letchworth State Park, another gorgeous spot where we spent a few hours exploring and enjoying the natural beauty. A must-see here is the Grand Canyon of the Erie – an absolutely breathtaking view that takes your breath away!
When traveling with others or by yourself in these beautiful regions, it’s always smart to plan ahead – check for local events or festivals happening during your visit. It adds more fun and unique experiences to make lasting memories together!
Lastly, I want to share a few practical tips for our trip: rent a car if possible; this will give you the flexibility to explore different attractions in various Finger Lakes towns. And don’t forget your camera – every moment is worth capturing!
